In everyday life I work as an architect, but at the wheel I get to express another side of my creativity.

I found my way to ceramics through a wheel-throwing course that I gave a friend as a 40th birthday present. The idea was that it would be a fun experience – but after my first time at the wheel, I was hooked.

Working with my hands, following the will and properties of the clay while searching for a simple, well-considered form is a process I keep coming back to.

Perhaps it is precisely the meeting between the form of architecture and the materiality of ceramics that makes throwing so fascinating to me. I am drawn to clean, simple forms and to what happens when the different expressions of materials meet. I especially like the contrast between the matte, slightly rough and tactile surface of the clay and the finer, denser expression of the glaze.
